Devils Lake eyes new hospital project

The Devils Lake City Commission is expected to endorse a Letter of Intent tonight (Monday) that could pave the way for a new hospital project.

The document is a collaborative effort between Altru Health…Essentia Health…Spirit Lake Nation and Devils Lake to work towards developing a state-of-the-art medical campus in the city.

On Friday the partners announced a media event would be held on Wednesday to discuss the partnership. Among those scheduled to attend is Altru CEO Todd Forkel.

In July of last year Altru announced plans to expand its clinic operations in Devils Lake – and scheduled a series of listening sessions with the public with an eye towards a new hospital. Essentia has purchased a parcel of land within the city that will serve as the future home of the health campus.
According to the Letter of Intent the parties have set a target date of August 2027 for completion of the hospital project.

The Devils Lake Commission meets at 5:30 p.m.
