Electric scooters could be rolling the streets of East Grand Forks later this year if officials at Bird Rides Inc. agree to contract revisions in a draft MOU with the city.
The pay per ride scooter firm launched service in Grand Forks back in September – and is looking to expand to the other side of the river this spring.
Duringthis week’s council meeting City Attorney Ron Galstad highlighted a few concerns within the existing contract including an automatic renewal clause…the permitting…and hours of operation.
According to Galstad the biggest red flag is a liability clause should the city be named in any future lawsuit involving the scooters. “They are the ones coming to us saying they want to run their scooters in East Grand Forks.”
The council directed staff to bring back a revised contract for consideration at a future meeting.
