EGF reviews latest peddle pub draft

By Doug Barrett Sep 27, 2023 | 7:42 AM

The East Grand Forks council got a chance to review a new ordinance last night (Tuesday) that would allow pedal pubs on downtown city streets.

The ordinance is similar to the one being crafted on the Grand Forks side of the river. East Grand Forks City Attorney Ron Galstad says since the multi-passenger bicycle will travel through both cities it made sense to keep the law somewhat uniform.

As it stands peddle pubs would be allowed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Galstad says the ordinance also covers questions about open container and public consumption.  “It’s not illegal based on the fact it’s being allowed in this peddle pub ordinance to be consumed in the bike or vehicle.”

The bicycle would travel at a max speed of 6 mph. No action was taken at during the council work session.

Jeremy King is the new East Grand Forks Park and Recreation Superintendent. He was the top candidate among three applicants interviewed by the city council last week. During a special meeting prior to the work session the council voted unanimously to hire King to replace Reid Huttunen who was elevated to the city manager post.  King previously served as the City’s Public Works Supervisor since November 2015.
