GF City Hall renovation scheduled for 2023

The Grand Forks council chambers are slated to receive a make-over in 2023. JLG Architects gave council members a sneak peek into some of the designs plans this week.

Some of the highlights include: rotating the room 90 degrees…a larger lobby in back…better sight lines…fire suppression sprinklers…and public seating for 84.
JLG’s Shawn Senescall says the council would also sit around an oval shaped dais.

Senescall says additional security is also being built into the plan – although it’s a work in progress.  “The updated dais design would have bullet resistant properties.  From an active shooter standpoint the first line of defense would be to drop down below the dais.  The second opportunity would be if we create safe rooms at either end and at that point you are allowed to crawl to seek refuge.”

The plan would also upgrade toilets throughout the building. The city has set aside $1.48 million dollars for the remodel in the 2023 budget.
