By Doug Barrett Feb 10, 2023 | 9:20 AM

The Grand Forks council chambers will get a $1.8 million dollar make-over.

The city council approved project bids this week with the work scheduled to begin later this month.  The goal is to better utilize the existing space…increase seating…sight lines…improve technology…and centers the room to let in more natural light.

Shawn Senescall of J-L-G Architects says safety is also a concern.  Senescall says in the event of an active shooter – bullet resistant glass will be installed at a cost of $102,000 dollars.

During construction the council will meet in the nearby HIVE building (former GF Herald).  The project is expected to take several months to complete.
