GF P & Z tweaks sign ordinance

By Doug Barrett Aug 5, 2022 | 8:47 AM

The Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a few changes to the off-premise sign ordinance.

The P & Z decided to remove the cap on the number of billboards that can be located along South Washington. The current code allows 9 billboards from DeMers Avenue to the city’s extra-territorial zone limit south of Merrifield Road. Right now there are eight signs – with another application pending.

City Planner Ryan Brooks says removing the cap doesn’t mean billboards will spring up all over the place.  “we still have the cap of 111 for the city.  We have applications right now to fill those.  Any request that comes along Washington still comes before you (P&Z).”

The billboards are also limited to commercial districts.

The city council still need to concur with the recommendation.
