With plenty of winter to go the North Dakota Health and Human Services Division is reminding residents struggling to pay heating bills to sign up for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Applications for the current heating season will be accepted through May 1st.

So far this winter, 12,500 qualifying North Dakota households received an average monthly payment of $270 for heating assistance.

A family of four can qualify for the federally funding program with an annual income up to $68,701 dollars.

In addition to heating costs, LIHEAP may also assist with weatherization services such as home insulation and weather stripping around doors and windows; furnace cleaning, repair or replacement; and chimney inspection and cleaning.

February 1st is national Energy Assistance Day.
