NW MN drowning victim located in Red Lake River

The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about 2:30 p.m. about a possible drowning in the Red Lake River, near Red Lake Falls.  Law enforcement officers, the Red Lake Falls Ambulance Service and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene.  Several witnesses stated that an adult male, in his 20’s, was walking in the river and he disappeared below the surface of the water and was not seen again.  Boats were deployed and fire department members and Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to find the missing individual.  At approximately 4:45 p.m. the body of the drowning victim was located in approximately 20 feet of water.  At this time the drowning appears to be accidental – but the incident remains under investigation.  The name of the victim is not being released pending family notification.
