The University of North Dakota is hoping to roll out a new food delivery program before the end of the year. Kiwibot and Grub Hub will utilize robots to provide the mobile order platform.
Grub Hub’s Travis Price says after an order is placed the robots follow a determined route along sidewalks and bike paths that the can be tracked by the user. “The robots are built with four wheel drive systems. The price point on the delivery fee is expected to be about $3 flat.”
Price says the service will only be available on the UND campus. “Our scope is simply limited to UND shops and any shops that would fall under their ecosystem.”
The goal is to initially start with 15 robots and expand as needed. UND would be the first campus in North Dakota to offer the robot delivered food service.
The Grand Forks council has directed staff to work on a permitting process for the program.
