A Warren (MN) attorney has been charged with the murder of his former wife.
Thirty-one-year-old Anders Odegaard was formally charged with second degree murder in the beating death of 31-year-old Carissa Odegaard.
According to Marshall County Court documents, on Tuesday afternoon, two of the couple’s five children stopped a man, asking him to call 9-1-1 because their mother was bleeding badly and needed help.
Deputies found Carissa Odegaard unresponsive in the home with severe head trauma. She was taken to Fargo’s Sanford Hospital.
Anders Odegeard only told deputies, “I don’t feel right.”
One of the couple’s children told authorities his father may have hit his mother with a knife or a spatula.
Authorities said two of the couple’s children saw the attack but fled and were not harmed.
The children had been staying with their father. An argument started when Carissa Odegaard came to pick them up.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sanford told the family and authorities that Carissa Odegaard had no significant brain function.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s mobile crime lab from Bemidji was sent to the home to assist with the investigation and evidence collection.
Odegard’s bail was set at $5 million cash without conditions … or a $2.5 million non-cash bond with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled Aug. 30th.
The second degree murder charge is punishable by up to 40 years in prison.
